Toll-like receptors play a crucial role in the recognition of invading pathogens and the activation of subsequent immune responses against them, which is generally involved in the defense against microbial infections...

Innate ImmunityDrug Discoveryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11941871784514986251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717602462727821401.post-63280896926534800852011-09-10T20:58:59.854-04:002011-09-10T20:58:59.854-04:00It's most likely a manifestation of an underly...It's most likely a manifestation of an underlying problem. However, if prenatal viral hypotheses are correct then the TLR disruption may be an upstream factor. For instance, cytokines produced in utero may cross into the brain, cause inflammation, and hinder the migration and further development of neurons. After birth, this may lead to the compromised structure of, amongst other areas, the prefrontal cortex and produce some of the common positive and negative symptoms seen in Schizophrenia.Hanna Algattashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03230577617508667927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717602462727821401.post-31464245327808485222011-09-07T23:59:33.405-04:002011-09-07T23:59:33.405-04:00Thanks for the post! Is there evidence to think that these TLR-mediated effects might be a cause of the condition, or just a manifestation of some other underlying problem related to the psychiatric condition?Geoffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07472521875173404609noreply@blogger.com
